Horse was gaping to get away from the bit during runs and was hard to get to rate and also to get to shut down sometimes when he got hot. Slightly more severe bits just made him gape more. Added this cavesson, and he’s listening perfectly to cues in a very mild short shank transition bit and a short shank, mild ported correction, with no more gaping. Will run it for a while and then see if we can do without. The nose band is stout enough to work, but thin enough to be out of the way. Some of the big flat band cavessons have a lot of thickness that is just bulky, but this one doesn’t.
