Why Choose Troxel
In 1992, Troxel introduced the first ASTM/SEI approved equestrian helmet. Founded by Dr. Richard Timms, Troxel has consistently pioneered innovations in the realm of equestrian riding helmets. With its roots in medical expertise and collaborations with professional horsemen and women – from world champion barrel racers to trail riders and participants in various English riding disciplines – Troxel stands out for crafting the most effective and best-fitting helmets available. These partnerships spurred groundbreaking innovations, making Troxel the pioneering company to focus on helmets for Western and Trail riders. By partnering with riders and associations such as the National Little Britches Rodeo Association and the National Barrel Horse Association, Troxel has persistently advocated for the use of equestrian helmets and educated riders on their advantages.
Selecting Your Ideal Helmet
Your riding style and personal preferences play a significant role in choosing the right helmet. Western helmets tend to sport a slightly lower profile compared to their English counterparts. Troxel offers three distinct fit adjustment systems: SureFit™, DialFit™, and FlipFold™, catering to your preferred fit. Adequate ventilation is another aspect to consider, as well as selecting a color or pattern that aligns with your personality.
Ensuring a Proper Fit
Troxel offers a wide range of helmets suitable for everyone from young children to adults. To check for the right fit, place the helmet on your head, level it just above your eyebrows, and move your head around, ensuring minimal slippage. Wear the helmet for a short while to ensure it isn't too snug or uncomfortable. Customize the fit using the fitting system, adjusting slide glides to form a "V" under each ear. Secure the chin strap snugly under your chin, leaving no more than a finger's width of space.
Helmet Care Guidelines
To extend the lifespan of your helmet, store it in a well-ventilated, cool area and shield it from minor impacts. The headliner can be cleaned by soaking it in mild, soapy water, followed by air-drying. Avoid using solvents or chemicals and never place it in the dishwasher, as extreme temperatures can weaken the shell. Clean plastic helmet shells with a soft rag and soapy water, and maintain a fresh scent by using Troxel's Odor Eliminating Spray.
Helmet Replacement Schedule
Your Troxel helmet, like most others, is designed for a single impact event. If your helmet is involved in an accident, replace it immediately. Normal wear and tear depend on usage frequency. The more you ride, the more frequently your helmet will need replacement due to material deterioration and diminished protection. It is recommended to replace helmets every five years at a minimum due to evolving standards and improved technologies.
